Soul Talkin’: 2026 Interview By Patrick L. Riley with David Nathan, Pt. 3

Soul Talkin’: 2026 Interview By Patrick L. Riley with David Nathan, Pt. 3

In Pt. 3 in the series, David Nathan shares with award-winning producer/writer/journalist Patrick L. Riley how the music of Dionne Warwick provided his entry into the world of R&B and soul music…

“In this clip, find out how young lad David could not WALK ON BY promising pop diva Dionne Warwick when she emerged onto the UK scene with a string of hits.  Before Dionne’s music surfaced, The British Ambassador of Soul was smitten with Beatles cover records of Motown American hits and British ginger soul songstress Cilla Black’s Dionne remake of “Anyone Who Had A Heart” had the little lad’s heart— until he heard “Walk on By” BY Dionne who would go on to have his heart and replace his Cilla Black on his wall of pop icon posters. I remember when Whitney Houston splashed onto the scene in the 1980s and ‘suggested’ I replace my Diana Ross poster wall with images of her. LOL! David’s and my fun chat – “Soul Talkin’: Patrick L Riley With David Nathan” – is the shaping of a cultural archive that digests David’s and my legacy work” – Patrick L. Riley, March 2nd, 2026
